Award-winning Reporter Damian Garde Rejoins STAT Ahead of STAT Summit to Strengthen Biopharma Reporting and Shape Live Events Programming

Garde’s new role will fortify the outlet’s leadership in biopharma coverage and accelerate STAT’s live events franchise.

BOSTON, Oct. 7, 2025 — STAT is thrilled to announce the return of Damian Garde to the newsroom in a new role that will fortify the outlet’s leadership in biopharma coverage and accelerate STAT’s live events franchise.

For eight years, Garde anchored our biotech newsletter and podcast and played a pivotal role in building STAT as the go-to site for biotech and business coverage. Among other honors, he was part of the STAT team that won a George Polk Award in 2022 for coverage of Biogen’s controversial Alzheimer’s drug, Aduhelm.

Now, as STAT marks its 10th anniversary and looks to its future, Garde is returning in yet another vital role: to strengthen STAT’s standing as the leading authority in biopharma, expand events programming, and showcase the finest writers in health and medicine.

As the reporter at large, live and feature journalism, Garde will help conceive, organize, and moderate STAT live events around the country; produce regular deep profiles and enterprise pieces about compelling figures in biopharma, health, and medicine; and augment STAT’s biotech reporting.

Matthew Herper, senior medicine writer and editorial director of events, said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled at the prospect of working with Damian to bring STAT’s events to the next level. He’s one of the most fluid and creative writers I have ever worked with, a natural on stage, and a brilliant student of biotechnology and drug discovery. Watch this space.”
